From May 29 to 31, 2019, the third "International Symposium on Autonomous Unmanned Systems (2019 ISAS)" was grandly held in Shanghai. The conference was co-sponsored by Chongqing University and Shanghai Jiaotong University, and received strong support from IEEE Computational Intelligence Association, Chinese Society of Automation, and "Trusted Control System" Subcommittee of Chinese Society of Automation.

The opening ceremony of the meeting on the morning of May 30th was presided over by Professor Song Yongduan, Chairman of the Conference and Dean of the School of Automation of Chongqing University, Professor Su Yuezeng, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Electronic Information and Electrical Engineering of Shanghai Jiaotong University, IEEE Life Fellow, and Professor Anders Lindquist, a foreign academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shanghai Jiaotong University Professor Chen Cailian of Shanghai Jiaotong University, IEEE Fellow, and Professor Frank L. Lewis of the University of Texas at Arlington made opening speeches respectively, which kicked off the conference.

Speech by Professor Frank L. Lewis, Honorary Chairman of the Conference

The topics of this conference include: artificial intelligence, autonomous unmanned systems, multi-agent systems, intelligent robots, networked control systems and emerging technologies. The conference brought together well-known scholars and industry elites at home and abroad, presenting a top technology feast. Nearly 20 invited reports were held at the conference. The relevant experts came from China, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Canada, Australia, Cyprus, Portugal, Sweden, Japan, Singapore and other countries, as well as Hong Kong and Macau. Among them, there are 3 academicians and 14 IEEE Fellows. Experts conducted enthusiastic exchanges and discussions on cutting-edge issues related to autonomous unmanned systems.

Professor Chen Jie, IEEE Fellow, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, President of Tongji University, made a report

Prof. Chen Jie, IEEE Fellow, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and President of Tongji University gave a conference report on the topic of "Optimization-d Cooperative Decision and Control of Multi-Agent Systems". In the report, Professor Chen Jie introduced the three research topics of UAV-UGV cooperation, distributed fault detection and multi-agent collaborative control, and proposed key technologies for the coordination of UAVs and ground vehicles, as well as collaborative faults based on hybrid optimization. Shared control problems for detection and multi-objective optimization.

IEEE Fellow and Professor Marios M. Polycarpou of the University of Cyprus gave a conference report on the topic of "Smart Buildings: Monitoring, Control and Fault Tolerance". The report outlines the current progress of smart buildings, and provides important results related to the monitoring, control, and fault tolerance of the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system of smart buildings. It demonstrates smart buildings' energy efficiency, home safety, entertainment interaction, and Broad application prospects and commercial value in reducing environmental impact.

IEEE Fellow and Professor Huang Jie from the Chinese University of Hong Kong gave a report on the topic of "Leader-Following Attitude Synchronization of Multiple Uncertain Spacecraft Systems subject to Jointly Connected Switching Networks". It mainly introduces the research progress of the leader of multiple spacecraft systems to follow the attitude synchronization problem, and incorporates adaptive control technology into the design framework to construct a distributed control strategy composed of distributed observers and purely decentralized adaptive control laws.

IEEE Fellow and Professor Jose C. Principe from the University of Florida gave a report 

IEEE Fellow and Professor Jose C. Principe from the University of Florida gave a report on "Reduction of Markov Chains with Value of Information". This report introduces the new concept of information value and how it can be used to solve the bottleneck problem in machine learning, and shows how to use this technology to solve the exploration-development problem in reinforcement learning. The second application involves simplifying the Markov chain, reducing the search space dimension and improving efficiency. Finally, it shows the example results of applying these concepts to games.

The closing ceremony and the handover ceremony of the next session were held at 5 pm on May 31. The next International Conference on Autonomous Unmanned Systems will be held in Guangzhou, China, and will be hosted by South China University of Technology. So far, the meeting ended successfully. This international seminar convened scientists, engineers and scholars in various fields such as artificial intelligence, autonomous behavior, unmanned systems, environmental perception and navigation, collaborative multi-agent systems, robotic systems, etc., to showcase and discuss the latest academic achievements and technologies progress. This conference not only presented a rich academic feast for the research of autonomous unmanned systems, but also promoted mutual understanding, exchanges and cooperation among participating experts and scholars.

The International Conference on Autonomous Unmanned Systems is authorized and technically supported by IEEE. It is held once a year and Chongqing University has the right to host it permanently. It is reported that the organizing committee has received applications from countries including China, Singapore, Japan, Canada, Australia, etc., and hopes to host follow-up meetings.
